High-Speed Digital Inputs / Outputs option (-dig)

The Digital option (UF2.xxxx-dig) extends the functionality of the UF2 Digitizer bards with additional digital input channels or the Arbitrary Waveform Generator boards with output channels. The digital channels sample at the same speed and are synchronized with the analog channels. This is most often used to record or generate high-speed status signals.

The option consists of a firmware update and a simple plug-on adapter that connects to onboard sockets. The adapter (shown above) occupies the next PCI backplate space and has connectors to the outside world.

Three versions are available, depending on the host UltraFast board:

 2 Digital Inputs per channel : UF2-4000 14-bit A/D boards
 4 Digital Inputs per channel : UF2-3000, UF2-3100 12-bit A/D boards
2 Digital Outputs per channel : UF2-6000 14-bit D/A boards (UF2-6000)

The data from the digital channels is stored in the unused high-end bits of the analog sample. For example, a 12-bit A/D channel would have 4 free upper bits - therefore the Digital Inputs option would use these free bits to contain the 4 digital channel values.    Similarly, a 14-bit D/A board can only be expanded with an extra 2 digital outputs for each analog channel as only the top 2 bits in the analog sample are free.

The part number for this option is UF2-xxxx-dig

For example, the UF2-3033 is a 4 channel, 12 bit, 60 MS/s A/D's board. So the UF2-3033-dig option adds adds 4 x 4 = 16 digital input channels.

Cables, Cab-d40-idc-100, are included with this option.
